Our Action Plan: STOP Project
The Florida Coalition Against Human Trafficking (FCAHT) has begun a project called STOP Project. It will provide outreach and advocacy services to at-risk persons who live and work in target areas and specially in SW Florida. The target population is men, women and children who are poor, disabled, have
low literacy skills and education levels, and do not speak English as their primary language. Victims are frequently involved in sex trade, domestic servitude, work in restaurants, bars, drug trade, mail order or foreign bride schemes, begging, internet-related business, construction trades, factories, migrant farm work, service industries such as nursing homes, and cleaning services.
STOP Project Summary:
Goals:
The goals are achievable because of Anna's extensive knowledge and experience in developing and delivering human trafficking outreach
and advocacy service to immigrants, victims, and networking with Federal, State and Local law enforcement agencies. She is currently delivering human trafficking awareness through outreach and advocacy services to SW Florida. The STOP Project is credited with identifying victims, assisting with their rescue and adjudication. As of June 2, 2005, we have 9 active investigations and 1 successful arrest.
Strategy & Funding:
The STOP Project strategy is to bring awareness through outreach and advocacy services to its audiences. Grant funds will be utilized to expand existing outreach and advocacy services and implement effective, innovative methods of delivering outreach information to the targeted population in SW Florida. Or goal is to employ two types of activities to deliver outreach and advocacy services:
- Direct Outreach and Advocacy activities to deliver services to victims and potential victims for the purpose of sharing information about their rights, the existence of the STOP Project, available community services, and what they can do if they or someone they know is a human trafficking victim.
- Indirect Outreach and Advocacy activities to build partnerships and establish protocols with social services agencies, law enforcement agencies, the legal, health, medical and dental communities, faith-based organizations and other organizations that come in contact with victims or potential victims or want to be involved with the Project.
- Rescue Services: translation, crisis intervention, medical and housing assistance.
- Referral Services: Advocacy services including immigration assistance, counseling, medical and health, benefits coordination, and translation.
