Oftentimes in the USA, LGBTQI youth become homeless because: family rejection for their sexual orientation or gender identity; they are victims of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse at home; LGBTQI youth is put on the street by the foster care system; and/or experience financial or emotional neglect from families. Once on the streets, these children face beatings, mutilations, rapes, and a host of other crimes that no child should ever live through. Whether they choose to leave their homes or are thrown out by their families or caretakers, they find themselves with little or no access to food, shelter, clothing, or other basic necessities. On the streets, traffickers prey on their desperation to escape social alienation and maltreatment engaging them in survival sex. Many young men seem to accept survival sex and often violent experiences as part of a dark, but normal route to acceptance, whether this is on their own journey, or due to feelings of being unable to expose abuse for fear of retribution from family and society.
Sexual exploitation is human trafficking and to assist the victims, it requires direct engagement and participation from every human being. The Florida Coalition against Human Trafficking (FCAHT) is an International and Domestic Anti-Trafficking Agency, and a 501(c)(3) organization that has been helping victims of human trafficking since its creation in 2004.

The LGBTQI youth community has limited representation in the current services provided and FCAHT addresses this issue exploring the links between high risk behavior and trafficking. FCAHT has assisted LGBTQI youth and continues to look forward to helping break down the stereotypes of “rent boys” and “survival sex” that exists within the community; - the case of a 13-year old transgender youth rescued from a prostitution sting is one example.
On Saturday, July 30th come to meet Anna Rodriguez (commonly known by rescued victims of trafficking as “Mom Anna”), founder of the FCAHT, who will expose the cruel reality experienced behind doors by many victims of human trafficking and how a little of compassion can go a long way in rescuing and assisting victims. In the words of a FCAHT rescued US sex trafficked victim, “when others refused to help me, you took the time to listen to me and help me...”
The mission of FCAHT is to improve and provide outreach and services to victims of human trafficking throughout the State of Florida by developing support programs, networking, coalition building, training, service delivery, and referrals to victims in need. Your suggested gift (tax deductible) of $100.00 or more will enable the Florida Coalition to offer services it cannot otherwise provide to trafficked victims; especially the LGBTQI youth.
